Visit the JFK Memorial Plaza This is a significant part of Dallas’ cultural heritage. The JFK Memorial Plaza showcases a square cenotaph, designed by architect Philip Johnson. The design mimics that of an open tomb, representing the freedom of President Kennedy’s spirit. Just a short 3-minute walk from the monument is the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza, which chronicles the assassination and legacy of former President John F. Kennedy. The museum is not a free attraction, however, so plan accordingly. Watch a Live Longhorn Cattle Drive Every day at 11:30 am and 4 pm, you can watch real Texas cowboys herd longhorn cattle through the Fort Worth Stockyards. This is definitely a must-see. The Mckinney Avenue Transit Authority, also known as the M-Line Trolley, is a non-profit established in 1983 that provides over 600,000 rides per year. Watch Airplanes Land & Take Off Founder’s Plaza in Grapevine is an airplane observation park located just outside of the DFW International airport. Catch a Free Concert The Fine Arts Chamber Players offer free classical music concerts and educational programs. October through May (excluding December) you can attend the Hallam Family Concerts on select Saturdays at 3 pm (check website for dates). During the month of July, you can enjoy the Basically Beethoven Festival on Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. Spend the Day Outdoors Nature truly provides some of the best entertainment around. In the DFW area you can easily spend the day soaking up the sun while escaping the hustle and bustle of city life. Here are three great places to explore: White Rock Lake & Park - Enjoy 9+ miles of hike & bike trails, picnic areas, a dog park, kayak concessions, and a boat ramp. Klyde Warren Park - This beautiful park is located in downtown Dallas, atop the Woodall Rodgers Freeway. Feel free to bring a blanket and picnic, along with the entire family, to enjoy the sounds of America. If the heat is too much to bear, head over to the Texas Pool on July 4th for an Independence Day Pool Party from 12 pm -6 pm. There will be food, pool games, and more. After enjoying some poolside fun, you can journey over to Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve’s Red Tail Pavillion for Plano’s All American 4th event, starting at 6 pm. There will be food and drinks, a vendor market, a free kid’s zone, and parade floats, followed by an awesome fireworks show at 9:30 pm. That is a bold statement to make, especially with so many other towns hosting firework shows. But, according to our friends with the American Pyrotechnics Association, The New York Times, Yahoo, Fodor’s, USA Today, the Wall Street Journal, and Travel + Leisure Magazine, Addison Kaboom Town ranks among the top fireworks displays in the country! Come and check out what all the excitement is about on July 3rd at Addison Circle Park. You’ll want to arrive early to enjoy the Airshow at the Addison Airport, featuring stunt displays, parachute jumpers, and flyovers by historic warbirds. Kids can enjoy inflatable water slides and other attractions all evening long with the purchase of a wristband, and live music by a number of party bands will keep the ambiance lively.
